Pierre du Gua, Sieur de Monts


de Monts Pierre du Gua, Sieur de Monts made his only voyage to Acadia in 1604 in order to acquire furs with the Indians. He left Acadia in 1605 after a devastating winter, never to return. Half of his men died that first winter. In 1632, other men came from Europe to settle Acadia permamently and they became the ancestors of the first Acadians.
