André Bernard, a mason, from Beauvais sur Mer (Poitou) is in Acadia by 1645. He is definitely the first by that name to settle in the area.. Dominique Bernard was born on June 6 the 1739 at Ile St.Jean. Between 1763 and 1773 the King of France granted land to him and to other Acadian families at Belle Ile en Mer.
