Family Crest Jean Roy (or Jean LeRoy also known as Laliberté or yet still Jean Roy also known as Laliberté) was born at St-Malo (France) in 1648. He arrived in Acadia around 1671 and was listed at Cap Sable on the 1686 census. In 1684 he married Marie Aubois, a Metis woman and together they had nine children.

Of the second generation, Abraham Roy settled in Louisiana while Benoît Roy of the third generation was later found in Madawaska (Maine). A brother Joseph who was made prisoner in Halifax, made it to Petit-Rocher, New Brunswick and François Roy, also known as Mazaret, ended up in Quebec.
